Because I enjoyed Wake Up And Change Your Life so much, I thought I’d read another business book by Duncan Bannatyne called the 43 Mistakes Businesses Make … And How To Avoid Them.
It’s another interesting read for any prospective entrepreneur.
43 Mistakes Businesses Make Review
In my opinion 43 Mistakes Businesses Make is very much targeted to the business start-up market as a guide of what to look out for or what to think about before you take out. Most people who have already started a business get rapid feedback – customers don’t buy, staff don’t do things right and the bank balance shoots downwards at an alarming rate.
If you haven’t run your own business yet, then I can promise you… there is nothing like it.
In fact, adapting can be just as big a shock if you’ve come out of a senior management position in a corporate business as it can if you’ve been a technician who got tired of his boss making the big money.
Everything depends on you.
That’s why the first two mistakes are important.
- Not taking good advice – it can be tough but sometimes those who have done it before or seen it done before do know best.
- Failure to take responsibility – when you’re the owner of the business, everything depends on you and it doesn’t get done unless you do it or organise for it to be done.
The book goes on to list plenty of other big mistakes – including listening to your Mum (she’s got a very different perspective of who you are and what you can do.
But there are plenty of other mistakes too which could have been included.
The big one from my perspective is failing to differentiate your business and your products.
Still you’ve got me (and my free resources at the bottom) to help with that.

Buying A Copy Of The 43 Mistakes Businesses Make
43 Mistakes Businesses Make is well worth reading if you’re thinking about starting a business. It’s easier to read than many business books and you can get a copy from Amazon.co.uk (affiliate link).
What it doesn’t do is provide you with a step by step guide on what to do like the Good Small Business Guide so I’d get both.
Read 43 Mistakes Businesses make from cover to cover and dip into the Good Small Business Guide when it’s appropriate.
Paul Simister is a business coach who helps small business owners to profit from differentiating their businesses, by being distinctive in the eyes of their customers and standing out in a crowded marketplace…. in other words, by building a business to be proud of.
