Strategy is about asking and answering key questions about your business and its future environment.
But there are also important questions to ask about strategy itself.
Unless you’re clear on key issues like “what is strategy?” and “why strategy is important?” you risk strategy consuming more time, energy and money than it generates.
Just because you “do strategy” doesn’t mean your business will be successful, just as if you “don’t do strategy” it is doomed to fail.
I firmly believe that strategic planning, strategic thinking and strategic management will make a business more successful than letting things happen by chance or by whim.
But there are plenty of examples of businesses who have done their strategic planning, come up with a good strategic plan and then failed to implement.
Part of the problem lies in not being clear about the big strategy questions.
